Our team was selected to journey to Mojos, a remote village nestled deep in the Andes mountains of Bolivia. Our trip started in the city of La Paz, a 13 hour bus ride later we arrived in Apolo. From there, 16 of us piled into a Toyota pickup truck five more hours to the Tuichi river, where two men and their inflatable raft took several trips across to deliver us and our packs on the other side.

From there was the real test. We had two days to carry all our supplies, through the jungle, over rivers, across landslides and up and down the mountains for 31 miles.

We quickly realized when our host said, “make every step a sure step, because if you slip it could be your last” he wasn’t kidding. The “trail” seen by only a handful of people besides the natives is treacherous. For the most part it is two to three feet across in width, with a sheer mountainface on one side and a looooonnng way down on the other. There are no bridges and the locals use thin, slippery logs and rocks to cross over the rushing waters.

Our journey to Mojos, (not the road to Mordor although it felt like it at times), was challenging, rancid, exhausting, breathtaking, rewarding, and lifegiving.

While in the village we held services, lead worship, worked in the fields, made meals, visited families, pampered the women and held VBS for the kids.

There is still so much to process, but as I continue putting together my final video and thoughts please enjoy this glimpse of our latest adventure to a place so few will ever get the privilege of seeing.

Isaiah 41:15  “See, I will make you into a threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. You will thresh the mountains and crush them, and reduce the hills to chaff.”
